Welcome to the Rebellion

This is the Ely Extinction Rebellion Page. We are a non-violent direct action movement demanding urgent action in the face of a climate emergency. We are the movement for East Cambridgeshire people demanding that we treat the #ClimateEmergency as an emergency and start building our zero carbon future locally.

Local Actions

Local Ely XR member Linda took part in the national hunger strike as part of the #ElectionRebellion  to raise awarness of the climate emergency.

Ely XR held a demonstration outside the Barclays Branch to demand an end to Fossil Finance. Of all high street banks, Barclays invests the most in fossil fuel extraction including Tar Sands and Fracking. https://peopleandplanet.org/divest-barclays

We organise monthly socials at the Cutter Inn in the last week of each month so join us for a "pint of Climate Science".

Extinction Rebellion Ely launched last year making local and national news with a Red Rebel parade and a 'Die in' demonstration outside the Cathedral.

General Meetings

We hold monthly meetings near the start of each month to plan actions and discuss other news related to solving the climate emergency locally.

Socials

"A Pint of Climate action"

In the last week of every month we hold a social event at the Cutter Inn which is open to all. This is a good way to meet others interested in addressing the climate and ecological emergency locally. Our next few Socials this year will be on Wednesday 26th of February, Thursday 26th of March, Tuesday 28th April, Wednesday 27th of May,  Thursday 25th of June and Tuesday 28th of July. Join us at 7:30pm.

Monthly Actions

Our aim for 2020 in the run up to #COP26 is to organise monthly actions. Come along to our monthly meetings to learn how to help organise these actions and follow us on facebook and twitter for the latest updates.
